Hello Family!

Thank you so much for joining me for another adventure. This week I would like to answer the single question I get the most from everyone who knows me. “You don’t have a car in ARIZONA? How do you get around?”

Spoiler alert, where there’s a will, there’s a way!

Now, I won’t lie..when the heat reaches the triple digits in the summer, I stay inside more. The golden seasons in Arizona are Fall, Winter, and Spring. Basically October-April. People like me, who have been here for a while, will immediately say the same thing. “If you can brave the summer, the rest of the year is beautiful, and no snow!”

Now without further ado, here is how I get around. Click the link here to watch the video I made especially for you! 👇

So you see, I have traded getting a car, car note, gas, insurance, repairs, tires, for a different kind of freedom. I see the city in a different set of eyes. I see things you may miss by just driving by. I don’t focus on the road, (unless I’m on my scooter), because I am the passenger. I let someone else “Drive Ms. Daisy, well, in my case, Ms. Indigo” 😂

If you think it’s more expensive, just keep these tips in mind.

  1. When it comes to Lyft/Uber, the earlier you leave, the cheaper the price may be. Rush hour times will drive your fee up. Pick times to leave your home either before or after “Rush Hour”. Same with weekends, go early, save that coin.
  2. In my opinion, in my area, Waymo is cheaper than Lyft and Uber. Yes, it’s only by a dollar or two, but to feel peace of mind as a woman traveling alone, there is nothing like it. No “creepy” men, no awful car smells, no politics, no opinions that are not yours, no music you don’t want to hear, no misogyny, no racists, just you, and a relaxing ride to your destination. I will always recommend for women to try Waymo once in your lifetime.
  3. When you ride the train or the bus, there are daily passes for one day. Weekly passes. Monthly passes. Refill passes. In my case, I have chosen the refill method. When I want to go, I check my balance, and based on where I am going, and how I am getting back, I determine how much I want to add to my refill app. For on time schedules, my favorite app is called “Transit”. It works for most states!
  4. E-scooters. In my area there are plenty near the bus stops, but because of the “scammers”, please be careful when tapping your phone onto the screen. I have my own scooter, but unfortunately, I have a flat tire and I don’t know how to fix it. It is a bummer, but I kinda wanted to upgrade what I had anyway, so maybe it’s not so bad after all.🤔
  5. Saving the best for last. Get that exercise in with walking or speed walking. I like doing this when the weather is great. When I walk, I can LITERALLY “stop and smell the flowers”. I usually take my landscape, plant, and cityscape photos when I walk. I notice what people are wearing when they walk past me. I notice sounds, people’s pets, the sky, and more. Let’s not forget that if you are in a sad or bad mood, walking can relieve some of that stress while getting your blood pumping.

I would love to hear from you. Are you afraid of the driver-less cars? Why or why not? Do you make it a point to walk more when the weather is nice? Comment and let me know. Don’t forget to share with anyone who finds themselves without a car. You don’t have to be stuck at home just because you don’t have a car! Until next week, Never forget, “More Joy For Less Coin!”
