Hello All! If you are a returning follower, welcome back! πŸ₯° If you are new…Hello, I’m Sunny, creator of this blog sunnyindigo.com. I share information about tiny living on a budget, and exploring your city all on a budget. WELCOME!

This week’s topic: is about the Dollar Tree store (or what use to be Dollar Tree).

I won’t lie, it’s been a few months since I visited Dollar Tree. Imagine my surprise when I saw the price of “regular” items for $1.50 at the time of this writing. Don’t believe me? I will add a small, 2 minute, video here…πŸ‘‡

Thank you so much for watching that video, trust me, I am “weening” myself away from YouTube. It will just take a moment. If anyone knows about other platforms that the “tiny” living community can transfer to, please comment below! Now let’s get back to Dollar Tree.

Real Confessions..by the time you get in the “empty-nester” age range, you find yourself saying things like “I remember when”, in this instance, I said just that. It really wasn’t that long ago when the Dollar Tree was exactly what it said a DOLLAR. In my area, we had 2 places like that, we had the Dollar Tree, and we had the 99 Cent store. I should have known things were never going to be the same once the 99 Cent store went out of business.

For people like me, who make content around doing things “for less”, it is sometimes a struggle. Goodwill went up on prices, I’ve heard from people that in some states, Goodwill prices are the same as department stores.😯 “That’s a no for me dawg”-Randy Jackson.

I know that Dollar Tree in a lot of states might look raggedy and run down. In my state, it depends on whether it is a small Dollar Tree or big one, and which side of town you visit. The store in that video was a bigger one, but as you saw, nothing was a literal dollar, which defeats the name of the store. Is that considered false advertisement? πŸ€”To make matters worse, most of the items that are of a higher price, does not look like it’s worth the price on the tag!

I could sit and complain about Dollar Tree all day, but I would rather just not give them my “coin”. My motto is “More Joy Spending Less Coin“, not spend more coin.πŸ˜‚ I have the power of my purse, and I say..Absolutely Not. The Dollar Tree that I visited in that video was across from a Walmart store. I was able to find things for my bathroom makeover at Walmart. Don’t get me wrong, Walmart is not a company that has good ethical principals, but I refuse to go to Target ever again, so I had to pick Walmart for the little things I needed on my list.

Oops…Did I let the cat out of the bag for my next post? 😊Yes, I did re-decorate my small bathroom!

As for Dollar Tree (and other stores following them), I have opted out. Intentional spending means knowing when a “deal”, is no longer aligned with your values and budget.

Question of the week: Will the price hike stop you from shopping at Dollar Tree, or will you just pay it with no problem?

Thank you for being a part of this quiet, thrifty community!
